Nintendo amiibo Hunting for Super Mario Series Wario

The Beauty of Wario

Amiibo are Nintendo’s physical figurines that interact with digital games for Nintendo’s various gaming hardware while also looking good on shelves. I’ve maintained a selective approach to obtaining these figurines. But because Wario is one of my favorite video game characters, it was only fitting I’d hunt for his amiibo.

Wario in All of His Glory

Just look at his mustache, round belly, and awesome grape-mustard color design. Wario doesn’t care if he’s essentially an evil imperfect clone of Mario turned upside down. He’s too busy having fun loving himself.

Wario In Time-Out

And now he sits next to all of my other amiibo, happy as can be. As long as he is not in “time-out” for bad behavior.

Fun fact: My spouse found this amiibo on sale during her trip to Hawaii! I’m proud of her.

But the same can not be said about GameStop’s eye for details. Wario is definitely not Waluigi. Because we all know Wario’s gonna win. 😉

The following information comes from Backlog and Bucket List Gaming ISSUE 2:

LIMBO SATISFIES:

Limbo is satisfying (no wonder it is on ten platforms and counting) in the way that it asks the player to find a solution to a problem and then after heartbreak, deaths by electrocution and drowning and impalement and other means, comes triumph in solving the problem.

It is a game that has spoken to many different gamers.

FUN FOR LIMBO:

For the gamers that want to pick up a game and play immediately, Limbo.

For those that are overwhelmed by all the buttons on the controller and wished a game only used a button or two, Limbo.

For players that want a story that is not told through an hour long cut scene, a game that can be beat in a handful of hours, a journey that tests your reflexes and puzzle solving abilities, well, that is going to be Limbo.

THE LIMBO BRILLIANCE:

It was the adventure, as well as the puzzles, along the way that kept me playing Limbo. For one, I really wanted to save my sister. The game’s simplicity is captivating. I needed to save my sister so I’m going to save her.

But then the puzzle aspect kicked in and my internal thought took over:

THE LIMBO THOUGHT PROCESS:

Oh, wait. There’s a crate.

What am I supposed to do with the crate? Let’s see. I can jump but do little else.

Can I push it? Cool. So, I guess I will push it into that lake. Crap! It is floating away. I need to jump on it quick.

limbo-2

Made it. I guess I will jump onto the land on the other side of the lake. Okay. What’s this? A sloped cliff.

Maybe I will climb it. Seems fine—oh no!

A boulder’s coming to get me. I died. The game reset and I am alive again. Good.

Now, how am I supposed to make it up that cliff without being squished?

LIMBO IS AN AWESOME ADVENTURE:

If you enjoy thinking like this for a good five hours or so, Limbo’s your game.

And it never stops asking the player to think or survey the environment, use tools that may seem like they are just part of the background, and solve tasks that seem simpler than they really are . . .

Why Limbo Is A Bucket List Game (Part 1)

LIMBO is a certified Bucket List game that everyone should play before he or she “kicks the bucket”.

The following information comes from Backlog and Bucket List Gaming ISSUE 2:

SAY HELLO TO LIMBO:

I would like to introduce you to a game I bought twice—a game that is on several platforms, making avoiding this gem a hard thing to do—and a game with no on-screen display: Limbo. The next game to be added to your Bucket List.

Limbo Title Screen

WHAT IS LIMBO?:

Limbo is an adventure puzzle game where the player gets to control a little boy who wakes up in a dark, dreary forest who soon realizes he needs to search for his sister. But finding his sister is no easy task.

The long forest takes you to many places: into caverns, up trees, across lakes, up ladders, and face to face with dangerous . . . things. I will keep that secret for when you eventually play the game. I recommend avoiding videos of this short and sweet adventure.

WHY I ENJOYED LIMBO:

I was hooked the moment I began my journey. The graphics were immediately striking with the world being consumed in darkness only brightened by the rays of white light coming from the background.

I remember waiting for the game to start only to realize it already had—the lack of on-screen health bars, inventory, and display really helped in immersing me into the game world. But it was the adventure, as well as the puzzles, along the way that kept me playing . . .

Why Pokemon GO Is A Bucket List Game (Part 2)

POKEMON GO is a certified Bucket List game that everyone should play before he or she “kicks the bucket”.

Read Part 1 of “Why Pokemon GO Is A Bucket List Game (Part 1)” by clicking here.

The following information comes from Issue 1 of Backlog and Bucket List Gaming:

POKEMON GO IS NEW:

I’ve taken walks that lasted for hours, along with my spouse, around a nearby marina nearly every night since the game has launched, simply to catch Pokemon, only to find groups of three or more people buzzing around doing the exact same thing.

It feels like everyone is sharing the same experience, a radically different feeling than when I’m playing—say—a game on Steam or new game that only those tuned into the gaming industry would care about.

4

POKEMON GO IS FUN:

I actually saw a girl pump her arm in the air in excitement from catching a Pokemon; a mother with her children perplexed at how many poke balls it took to catch a critter; a group of teens in a van stopped me to ask me what team I was on after battling at a Pokemon Gym, then the driver proceeded to compliment the Pidgey I left at the Pokemon Gym.

POKEMON GO IS LIKE HALLOWEEN:

With so many people on the streets, I have come to call this experience “Trick-Or-Treating for Grown Ups” . . . and kids, and parents, and for everyone. No one is left out even if not everyone is playing.

The closest I’ve felt to this experience is on Halloween, and I don’t want it to end. One day, it will for “all good things must end”. But for now, Pokemon GO is an unforgettable social experience that is easy to play . . . CONTINUE READING NEXT WEEK

POKEMON GO is a certified Bucket List game that everyone should play before he or she “kicks the bucket”.

The following information comes from Issue 1 of Backlog and Bucket List Gaming:

THE POKEMON GO EXPERIENCE:

Pokemon GO deserves to be on every gamers bucket list simply for the experience one gets by playing it.

It’s an experience the mobile app may not hold onto in the years to come when the player base normalizes, but at the game’s launch is a different story.

3

POKEMON GO IS SOCIAL:

What experience would that be? It’s hard to explain, but I’ll try my best. It is a social experience like no other and that’s not hyperbole. Before July, seeing someone with a phone meant that person was texting, checking Facebook, or using some other app independent of everyone else; a singular experience others were not privy.

After Pokemon GO, however, almost every person walking around with a phone in-hand is playing the game. And there are dozens upon dozens of players outside at almost all hours of the day . . . CONTINUE READING NEXT WEEK

Why Excite Truck Is A Bucket List Game (Part 1)

EXCITE TRUCK is a certified Bucket List game that everyone should play before he or she “kicks the bucket”.

The following information comes from Issue 1 of Backlog and Bucket List Gaming:

Excite Truck Beach Capture from Nintendo Archiver.

Speeding Along with Turbo Power.

EXCITE TRUCK MEMORIES:

Excite Truck was the first game I purchased for the Nintendo Wii. I pretty much had to buy it, really. The store where I bought the Wii enforced a mandate that anyone purchasing the Wii had to also buy a Wii accessory as well as a game. My brother purchased a Wii for himself alongside The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess while I bought Excite Truck with my shiny, new white console.

To say the least, Excite Truck was one of the best launch titles of all time. To say more, let’s proceed, shall we?

Excite Truck Medal Capture from Nintendo Archiver.

Unlocking Medals is Addicting Fun.

EXCITE TRUCK IN A NUTSHELL:

Excite Truck is a pick-up-and-play arcade racer that has the player racing to the extreme all across the globe. Expect high speed and big jumps while making and breaking high scores.

Whether it was racing through the beaches and mountainside of FIji or through the winding roads of Canada, the game never ceased being fun. This is great especially because the game encourages repeated play throughs of each course in order to obtain better grades and medals . . .
