Disgaea 5 Complete (Nintendo Switch) FINAL ENTRY | GAME JOURNAL

ENTRY #6

PLAY TIME: 50h 00m

WEBSITE: www.nintendo.com/games/detail/disgaea-5-complete-switch

IT ALL ENDS HERE

Well, everyone, our Disgaea 5 Complete Game Journal has come to an end.

I was able play another nine hours or so of this meaty tactical role playing game and came out the victor.

That is correct. I beat Disgaea 5 Complete *party time* Yay!!!

Killia, Seraphina, Zeroken, Red Magnus, Usalia, and Christo finally confronted Void Dark in an epic end battle. It was glorious.

FINAL TEAM

By the end of the game, however, I was only really using Killia and sometimes Seraphina from the core six main characters. I’m curious as to what everyone else out there used in their first playthrough (comment here or on my Twitter to let me know).

My go-to team mainly consisted of “generic” characters. These are characters one can obtain by talking to The Recruiter shop. They’re generic characters because they are not the main characters of the story such as Killia, Seraphina, and company.

MY MVP

Essentially, my party consisted of generic classes such as the Maid, a Thief, and a Sage. I used the Thief to toss my Sage and Maid into enemy quarters while my Sage blasted away foes with her powerful spells (for your information, my Land Decimator still sucked in the latter portion of the campaign). My Maid, though, was the most valuable person to me the entire game.

Her ability to use two items in one turn, or to attack and then use an item in a single turn, allowed me to win battles quickly while leveling her up. Yes, Thigh Highs–the auto-generated name of my awesome Maid class–won almost every battle for me.

THE RIGHT SET-SUP

I used her tactically to my advantage. Before battle, I equipped her with an ability that made objects thrown by her do more damage. In battle, I would toss her towards a group of enemies with my Thief then use the Maid to toss “Throwing Knives” and “Medal” items at enemies for massive damage. Rinse and repeat my way through the final chapters of the game.

It did not hurt that Thigh Highs was also hundreds of experience levels stronger than the rest of my team and the enemies I encountered. She topped out at about Level 530 while Void Dark’s stage supplied me with foes around Level 100. Let’s just say I was beating Void Dark’s cronies with relative ease with a smile across my face.

DISGAEA 5 COMPLETE IS A BUCKET LIST GAME

I had so much was fun playing this game from the very start to the closing credits. I enjoyed the anime tropes, cliche character story progression, humor, and hilarious character moments and interactions. Seraphina–the richest demon around–accepted being poor and grew as a person because of it. Red Magnus talks like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. And everything in between.

COMES TO AN END

But all good things must come to an end. Well, really, I will come back to Disgaea 5 Complete often to continue on with post-game content such as completing the downloadable content and trying to level up my team to the elusive Level 9999.

There are also more character classes for me to unlock as well as the Item and Chara Worlds to explore. Hundreds of hours of play time awaits.

THANK YOU!

So, thank you all for reading my Disgaea 5 Game Journal every week until its conclusion. If you haven’t already decided to get the game, what are you waiting for? Go out and buy it. Go. I’ll wait.

Thanks for reading!

ENTRY #6

PLAY TIME: 41h 57m

WEBSITE: www.nintendo.com/games/detail/disgaea-5-complete-switch

Get ready for seven episodes in one!

I played another thirteen or so hours this past week, mainly blowing through the main story with my overpowered characters I leveled. Read all about my leveling tricks in my last game journal. Not much grinding this week, but a lot of story.

Onward!

MAJORITA IS REALLY, REALLY, REALLY EVIL

Shortly after the child Usalia joined our team, we found out that the evil necromancer Majorita had taken over Usalia’s world, enslaved her people, and killed the little bunny girl’s parents.

On top of that, Majorita reanimated Usalia’s parents and made them fight their daughter. Ouch. Overkill. Usalia refused to battle her parents which gave Majorita the upper hand. Luckily for the group, Bloodis (Lord Void Dark’s second in command) appeared and dismissed Majorita from her duties.

Bloodis brought Killia to his knees, and it looked like the group would be killed. But out of nowhere, Zeroken appeared! He used his ninja abilities to teleport the group back to their base before Bloodis could do even more damage to Killia and the team.

The team regrouped and went after Bloodis to end the demon general with vengeance. Additionally, Zeroken revealed that Bloodis was none other than the legendary Overlord Goldion–Zeroken’s mentor–brainwashed by Void Dark.

ULTIMATE FIGHTING TECHNIQUE

Killia also revealed that he was Goldion’s apprentice, and the only way to free Goldion was by performing an ultimate fighting technique.

But his knowledge of the skill was lacking and he needed Zeroken to perform the technique alongside him. After another battle with Bloodis, the duo tried to perform the move but failed.

That was when Zeroken told everyone the truth: He was not really Goldion’s apprentice. And that was why he could not perform the skill when he was needed to do so.

THE TALE OF ZEROKEN

Zeroken was really an ex-soldier from Void Dark’s army who defected after having a chance meeting with Goldion. He bandaged Goldion back to health and was taught how to fight in return by the legendary fighter. Shortly after, Void Dark brainwashed Goldion into becoming the demon general Bloodis.

Killia told Zeroken that the young ninja had the ability to free Goldion because he had a good heart. Zeroken just needed to learn how to purify his heart before trying the technique. The team found Bloodis and had yet another battle. Finally, the duo used the final technique and seemingly vanquished Bloodis.

But then Lord Void Dark appeared and put Killia in his place.

Bloodis regrouped and it was evident the final technique did not work. The group decided to return to their base after Killia sustained injuries in his battle against Void Dark.

WHAT’S UP WITH KILLIA?

Killia finally revealed all.

He told the team how Goldion saved him from himself by teaching him how to have a pure heart, that Void Dark was actually Goldion’s son, and Lieze (Goldion’s daughter and Void’s sister) was the closest family Killia ever had. He did not let them know, however, that Lieze’s death was what fueled him with revenge for Void Dark.

Meanwhile, Void Dark gained the ultimate ability to absorb energy. He quickly used his new skill to send energy spears across the multiple Netherworlds to suck each world’s energy.

One spear landed on Scorching Flame, Red Magnus’ home world.

The team explored Scorching Flame and found that Red Magnus’ allies were still alive but felt abandoned by Red Magnus. After much thought, Red Magnus realized his guilt for leaving his allies and apologized.

Red Magnus and company were able to save Scorching Flame and destroyed Void Dark’s  energy spear.

TO TOTO BUNNY

The team then headed to Toto Bunny, Usalia’s home world, to battle Majorita and stop an energy spear from destroying the world. Usalia dug deep and the team helped her defeat Majorita, but the necromancer jumped up and poisoned Usalia before retreating.

Back at the home base, Christo healed Usalia to health with angelic flair. This made Seraphina question whether Christo was really an angel in disguise.

Christo skirted around the topic.

VENGEANCE IS OURS

The group traveled after Majorita but found Bloodis instead. The team fought the demon general once more, but Bloodis defended himself against Killia and Zeroken’s ultimate technique. Afterwards, Bloodis fell back due to having something more important to attend to.

Instead, Majorita was just around the corner. Usalia’s un-dead parent’s protected Usalia before she enacted revenge on Majorita, finally defeating her.

At the same time, it was revealed that Christo was in-fact an angel on a mission to clear all suspicion that he was a spy. The angels, however, had already started a plan to nuke the Netherworlds, destroy Void Dark, and kill all demons.

Christo, though, kept all of this information to himself and eventually sided with his demon allies because he now considered them family.

INTO THE FUTURE

Christo must now try and defeat Void Dark to clear his name and stop the angels from nuking the Netherworld. What a challenge indeed!

Chapters 5 through 11 were highly entertaining and full of character revelations. What can we expect next episode? Only time will tell.

UNTIL NEXT TIME, DEMON OVERLORDS

Thanks for reading, and see you next time!

Disgaea 5 Complete (Nintendo Switch) Entry #5 | GAME JOURNAL

ENTRY #5

PLAY TIME: 26h 00m

So, everyone went curry crazy during Episode 4: Yellow, rabbit, and Curry.

It all started when an intruder was spotted in our Netherworld base and Killia’s curry went missing.

The intruder was more of an afterthought while everyone’s undying love for Killia’s curry came out into the open. The Prinny were especially mad.

A WILD PRINNY APPEARS

After a bit of searching, I was able to find a suspicious looking yellow Prinny hanging out at a computer in the lobby. The Yellow Prinny ran away upon approach, but I would not let that curry stealing thief get away.

I gathered Killia and the rest and traveled through the Netherworlds to chase after the Yellow Prinny but not before “The Other Killia” made Killia feel bad.

After that uncomfortable exchange, we traveled to a new Netherworld called Demunshroom.

MUSHROOM POWER

Get it? Demun; demon; because everyone is a demon in this game? Yeah.

Puns aside, the levels inside Demunshroom all contained the same battle gimmick: Randomly sprouting giant mushrooms that could be thrown at enemies and cause status ailments.

I never used this tactic as my team was strong enough to defeat foes by themselves. I did, however, destroy plenty of giant mushrooms with glee.

Any who, I chased after the Yellow Prinny from stage to stage until I reached the last level of Episode 4 . . .

. . . and here is where I did my usual thing and began an epic grind-fest. Yay!

GRINDING AWAY FOR THAT SAGE PAYDAY

I heard there was a character class in Disgaea 5 that was awesome and overpowered: The magic using Sage class with her decimating abilities.

Rumors of this class spread across the internet, and by rumors I mean I found tons of videos and articles detailing it from the PlayStation 4 release years ago.

A friend of mine told me I would not unlock it until late in the game.

I took that as a challenge.

After work one fine Friday, I played Disgaea 5 for nearly five hours to do what I thought was possible: To level up my Sage—Jinx is her name—from level 50 to level 150 and gain the powerful Land Decimator attack. And I knew just the way to do so.

HOW I LEVELD-UP LIKE A PRO

In my last Game Journal, I outlined an approach I took to increase the levels of my team members from 20 to their 50s. It involved going to Stage 2-1 to utilize the stage’s 50% experience boost along with increasing experience earned via the Cheat Shop. This is the same set-up I used once more to propel my Sage from a scrub to a somebody.

I also unlocked and equipped an ability to Jinx that gave her an additional 10% experience boost. No we are talking!

THE UNOPENED SODA TRICK

With everything in place, I went to the Item Shop and purchased hundreds of Unopened Sodas. This is a trick I learned online. If I remember correctly, a character gains one level with every eight items that are used. The Unopened Soda item is recommended because it is inexpensive and supplies two uses.

Once used, the item becomes an Opened Soda in the inventory that can be consumed an additional time. The idea is to use an Unopened soda, end the turn, use an Opened Soda, end the turn, and repeat until eight items are used by a single character. Level up. Easy as that.

But, there is more! All of the experience boosts I pooled together made it possible to level-up faster and required less Soda usage. I only had to use about two or three Sodas per level gained instead. This allowed me to increase Jinx’s levels really fast.

It also helped that my Maid class, Thigh Highs, had learned an ability that allowed her to give Jinx a second action every turn which meant my Sage was leveling up every other turn. Bingo, I got it.

Challenge passed and completed. Within an hour or so, my Sage was level 150 with the mighty Land Decimator attack in her possession. Just look at it . . .

SAD DECIMATOR

I quickly found out that the attack was weak and needed a lot of tweaking by applying the correct equipment and abilities to make it truly strong. This will be something I will research, and talk to my friend about, in the coming days.

I might not have the strength of the Land Decimator in my possession, yet, but I now know how to strengthen the rest of my team relatively fast. This is a good thing since I would like to get all of them closer to Jinx’s level. I’ll probably do a bit of level grinding as soon as I am done typing this journal entry. I can’t wait!

My Sage had reached level 150 and with that I returned to the final level of Episode 4.

YELLOW PRINNY EXPLAINS IT ALL

The Yellow Prinny was cornered but quickly explained what it was up to.

Its master, a demon Overlord, had transformed into a gigantic bunny creature and the Yellow Prinny stole the curry because curry was the only thing that could turn its master back into human form. Killia and the rest helped the Yellow Prinny to kill the opposing monsters nearby before subduing the crazed Overlord.

The Yellow Prinny screwed up the curry delivery, but luckily, Killia had one last plate hiding in his back pocket.

The Overlord Usalia gobbled up the food and returned back into the humanoid form she was meant to be then joined us on our quest to stop Lord Void Dark.

I also opened up a new shop called the Curry Shop. Who would have thought, right? I haven’t tinkered with it yet and I wonder what it does. Got to find out.

Success! Another fine Episode came to a close with great humor and funny character interactions.

UNTIL NEXT TIME, DEMON OVERLORDS

The game is as fun as ever and it continues to be so as new items, levels, characters, shops, and skills are unlocked.

Thanks for reading, and see you next time!

Disgaea 5 Complete (Nintendo Switch) Entry #2 | GAME JOURNAL

ENTRY #2

PLAY TIME: 4h 50m

WEBSITE: www.nintendo.com/games/detail/disgaea-5-complete-switch

Welcome to the second entry in my Disgaea 5 Complete gamethrough blog!

I have played an additional 3 or so hours since my last entry and have successfully completed Episode 1 of the game.

Episode 1 was comprised of five levels (if I remember correctly), the right amount of story content, and a few more systems introduced that affected gameplay. Along with some zany anime inspired characters.

Out of the five levels, I completed the first stage over 40 times. Yes. Over 40. If don’t like to grind, no worries. It was not necessary at all for me to replay the first stage, but it was the fastest and easiest way to gain levels, experience, and money within the first five hours of the game. If I wanted to, I could just happily continue onward, but I’m the type of gamer that loves to squeeze every bit of potential gain from a game when I play. Uh . . . I guess I want to say–to put it succinctly–I love grinding 🙂

I also used the first stage to complete quests from the Quest Shop. Quests are constantly replenished, thus I fell into an addicting and fun loop of accepting quests, replaying stage 1, and clearing quests until I had to pry myself from the game because life obligations needed to be attended to. Boo hoo. Life *sigh*

But the few hours I got to play, I really enjoyed not only grinding it out but watching the characters interact. Seraphina still thinks she is the center of every man’s universe and Killia began to show a new side of himself. Very literally.

Also, the ridiculously muscled Red Magnus showed up. He’s okay. Seraphina doesn’t really like him and Killia draws a crude picture of him worthy of a first grader. What I like the most is Red Magnus’ ridiculous interactions with our previously mentioned duo.

As far as new role playing game systems that affect game play, I am thoroughly enjoying the Quest Shop as I mentioned above. Quests provided me with plenty of items, loot, and money plus they helped me get better familiarized with the controls. I’ve also unlocked a Skills Shop to further customize my character’s abilities and a nifty place called an Innocent Shop.

Innocents are characters that live inside items and strengthen them when equipped to them. When I completed a quest, I sometimes received an item with an Innocent equipped to it. The shop allowed me to rip the Innocent from the item and place it on any other item. This was pretty neat, being able to strengthen each of my characters just the way I wanted. So, if I wanted to gather all of my Hit Point raising Innocents and put them on a single armor and give it to a specific character, I could do that. The customization in this game is mind blowing in a good way.

I can’t wait to see what else is added now that I am the start of Episode 2. Oh. The evil folk are cooking up a plan . . .

I’ma smash those baddies when I get the chance. Until then, I’ll probably continue grinding to be as strong as I can because that is really fun for me. I’ve been looking up as many tutorial videos that I can to help which only makes me want to play some more. Hmmm . . . I think I hear the game calling to me as I type.

Oh, Serpahina. Will you ever learn?

Thanks for reading, and I will see you next time.

Happy gaming, everyone!
